Lijit needs you

If you are a software engineer with 4 years of experience or more, or a database wizard with more than 5 years of experience, we are looking for you.

We have several openings on our technical team for people that want to get up in the morning and go work somewhere fun and solve problems that matter. There is nowhere to hide at Lijit, your software will be pushed to production every 2 weeks and you will get to see it in action on web sites all over the Internet including, The Lavatory Lady, Pencil Things and the Doodle Blog.

We use PHP, MySQL, Java, Linux, etc. We are flexible about the computer, the OS, the clothes (if any) you wear (as witness by our new Evangelist Joe ). You need not be able to dance. Slackers need not apply.

Lijit offers competitive salaries, stock options for everyone, and a fully paid health plan (yes, that’s right, we are the last company on earth). We stock our kitchen with what’s required to get the job done (that’s legal) and sometimes we even BBQ on the deck .

If you are interested, shoot us your resume at info<at>lijit<dot>com and swing by and say hi.

A new look for Lijit

We had a release yesterday in which we changed the look of Lijit a bit. Our home page has been redesigned to help give readers a better sense of what we do. Plus, we’d received feedback from people that they weren’t sure where to sign up for a new account. We just can’t have that. Ta-da…new, improved and still featuring our favorite Lijit green…

Another feature that we had a lot of users asking for was integration with Facebook. Okay, okay, we hear you. Now you can add your Facebook profile under the “my content” section of your Lijit account and we will magically place a wijit on your facebook profile page as well.

And finally, we had many user requests for the “retro” design of our original wijit. What our users want, they get. So we’re proud to offer two different wijit designs to choose from. When you go to configure your search wijit, you’ll see a drop-down menu near the top. From there you can choose the “big rounded” wijit or the “slim rectangular” wijit, which looks like this…

If you’re in the mood for a sleeker, old school wijit, it’s all yours. Another successful release comes to a close with more features, upgrades, bells and whistles that you asked for. We have lots more that we can’t wait to share and welcome your comments to help us shape the future of our service.

What’s a hosted WordPress.com user to do?

Are you a hosted WordPress.com user trying to install Lijit’s Search Wijit? You can’t do it, can you? Yup, it’s a sad state of affairs. Hosted WordPress.com sites aren’t terribly widget-friendly, so our poor little Wijit just has to stand on the sidewalk, with its nose pressed against the glass, wishing it could be inside where there’s clearly so much searching to be done.

But enough of our little Wijit’s tale of woe… Please know that we’re working hard to get our Wijit added to WordPress.com’s list of “available widgets”. Until until then, you’re more than welcome to set up an account on Lijit and be searched through your Profile page. You can even add a link to your Profile page from your blog. (It’s easy - just see our Wijit Installation and Configuration help page for the steps.)

So hang in there, hosted WordPress.com friends. Hopefully, our little Wijit will be coming your way soon!

P.S. If you’d like to help us in our quest to be added to WordPress.com’s list of available widgets, please send them some feedback about us! (You can provide feedback on the list of available widgets by logging into your WordPress.com account, clicking on My Dashboard –> Presentation –> Widgets, then the Feedback link in the upper right-hand corner of the page.) Thanks!

No better way to end a week than with some new features!

It’s been an awesome week here at Lijit. We celebrated our first birthday, closed $3.3M in Series B funding, and got written up in TechCrunch and Mashable. But could we stop there? No! We decided to thoroughly cap off the week and get a jump-start on July by releasing some new features and performance enhancements.

  • Do some of the things people have searched you about make you want to blush? Try our new naughty word filter. From your Profile page, click the link beneath your Popular Searches cloud to “Filter displayed searches”. With a simple click on the “Enable naughty word filter” checkbox, embarrassing searches — both past and future — magically disappear.
  • Wish you could have a screen name that was different than the username you log in with? You can now! Visit your Account page and fill in the Screen Name field. Easy as that.
  • Ever wonder where a search result listed on your Content or Network tabs came from? Wonder no more. We’ve enhanced the information that displays to the left of each search result to show how that result is connected to the person you’re searching. (Hover your mouse over the items in the left-hand column of your search result page to display the connection.)
  • Had you noticed that Lijit was getting a little slow? To fix this, we found some jet packs and strapped them to the servers. Well, no, not really, but we did release several fantastic performance enhancements. We hope you notice — and thoroughly enjoy — that Lijit is now sleeker and faster than ever!

As always, if you have questions or comments about any of the features we released or ideas for new features you’d like to see, please tell us!
