After our release last night, we’re proud to introduce a super-cool integration that allows you to see blog comments in your search results. If you’re using JS-Kit, Intense Debate, or Disqus, you’ll now see something different when doing a Lijit search.
Underneath the search result, you’ll see how many comments the post received and when you click on the link, you’ll get a preview of the first couple of comments. There is also a “View more comments” link that will show you all the comments on the post.
Why is comment integration important?
–People that write and read blogs are always interested in what others have to say. One of the most valuable pieces of any blog is the comments section because it’s an excellent indicator of reader engagement and shows the conversation taking place around a topic. Lijit understands that and with this integration, give you the ability to judge a search result by checking out the comments before you click on the result.
–The integration of comments into search results is an important step forward in the integration of widgets and the content that BOTH publishers and readers find valuable. Lijit is proud to offer a unique search experience that is not available anywhere else.
–Lijit was founded on the notion of trust. We recognize the critical importance of your social network in establishing and conveying trust. This is yet another example of how Lijit uncovers more valuable information for publishers, readers and commenters alike.
We are proud of this new feature and want to know what you think. Leave us a comment with your feedback and enjoy the enhanced search functionality!

Wonderful illustrated information. I thank you about that. No doubt it will be very useful for my future projects. Would like to see some other posts on the same subject!
Does this mean that Lijit will search both blog post content AND comment content - and display these results as one list (or does it only search blog post content)? Searching over the comments is what I am looking for (the comments may well contain what I'm searching for).
We only search blog post content, but then will display all comments associated with the posts that show up in the search results. This is useful when deciding whether or not a search result might be relevant or useful.
We're still working on being able to search comment content.
Re: first question Does this mean that Lijit will search both blog post content AND comment content - and display these results as one list (or does it only search blog post content)? Searching over the comments is what I am looking for (the comments may well contain what I'm searching for).
Re: second question When/where does "my" content get displayed in search results - when I search any blog which uses Lijit - or only when my search matches something I wrote in a comment? Both options seem strange - I'll do some more reading on your site - happy to be pointed to a URL.
To further clarify the answer to your first question, we don't search comment content yet. We search blog content and then display the comments associated with each blog post.
And to answer your second question, your content only gets displayed when someone does a search on your blog. So if you're using Lijit and someone does a search on your blog, then if you have any Intense Debate comments mentioning that search query, then that comment will be displayed under the 'Content' tab in your search results.
Seems like a great solution to solve a major problem with Intense Debate comments (they don't appear in the search results when searching the blog). Any chance of you supplying a dummies guide to setting the most basic solution up (a search over one blog's posts AND its comments)?
One thing that I found strange is that when setting up a Lijit search it prompts for an Intense Debate email address (which suggests it will pull comments from one user rather than an the URL of the RSS feed for all comments for that blog) - or am I missing something?
Rob, as long as you're using a third-party commenting system AND you have Lijit installed on your blog, then you don't need to do anything else to see comments displayed. When you do a Lijit search, you should be seeing a link that shows you how many comments each post has. You can click on this to see the comments.
To answer your second question, the reason that we ask for your ID username is that we index any posts where you've commented (on other blogs) and serve those up as search results under your 'Content'. This is cool because you're creating content when you post comments anywhere and now those are searchable with Lijit.
Let us know if this makes sense of if you have other questions we can help to answer.
Better search results…Now with even more content!
