Scheduled service upgrade on Friday, June 25

Note: the following email was distributed to all Lijit publishers on June 23.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at:  feedback@lijit.com.

We would like to inform you of an upcoming service upgrade that we have scheduled for Friday, June 25th starting at 11:00 p.m. MST.  Here are the key points we want you to know in advance of Friday’s service upgrade:

No action is required on your part.

  • Your Lijit search box will be temporarily unavailable to your readers while we conduct this service.
  • Your ad passback tags will work as configured.
  • The overall performance (i.e., page load times, etc.) of your site will not be effected during this service.

Lijit service windows are rare and this is the first time in three years that we have had to make back-end infrastructure improvements to better support our growing publisher base. We have chosen this day and time because it reflects low impact and low traffic times for our publishers.

Advertising Services:  We will not have the ability to serve any Lijit ads during the upgrade.  As stated above, passback tags will still be available for publishers using them as part of their Lijit configuration. Please see our advertiser FAQ for additional information on passback tags: http://www.lijit.com/help/pub-ad-faq#_Toc_passback.

For more information on our advertising services, please see http://www.lijit.com/publishers/commercial-publishers.

We appreciate your understanding and apologize in advance for any inconvenience this service interruption may cause.

Lijit Wordpress Plugin Update

This is just a quick update to let folks know about some recent updates we’ve made to the Lijit Wordpress Plugin. In the last 72 hours we pushed 2 fixes that addressed a few different bugs we had been running into with the plugin. These were bugs that tended to affect a very small number of publishers who had older versions of php, or certain conflicts with other javascript that may have been on the blog.
Hopefully these changes will make it easier for everyone with a wordpress blog to install Lijit. We apologize if you had to upgrade multiple times in the last few days.

If you have any questions , we are always willing to help , just email us at support at lijit dot com.

Maintenance Outages 10/27 and 10/28…

During the evening of Saturday, October 27th, and the morning of Sunday, October 28th, Lijit will be unavailable due to maintenance activities. The maintenance activities on Saturday evening will begin at 9pm Mountain Time and should last no longer than an hour. The maintenance Sunday morning will begin at 9am and will take a little longer — around three hours. We’re sorry for the inconvenience, but once all of this work is done, Lijit will be stronger, faster, taller, better looking, and more fun to hang out with at parties.

What’s a hosted WordPress.com user to do?

Are you a hosted WordPress.com user trying to install Lijit’s Search Wijit? You can’t do it, can you? Yup, it’s a sad state of affairs. Hosted WordPress.com sites aren’t terribly widget-friendly, so our poor little Wijit just has to stand on the sidewalk, with its nose pressed against the glass, wishing it could be inside where there’s clearly so much searching to be done.

But enough of our little Wijit’s tale of woe… Please know that we’re working hard to get our Wijit added to WordPress.com’s list of “available widgets”. Until until then, you’re more than welcome to set up an account on Lijit and be searched through your Profile page. You can even add a link to your Profile page from your blog. (It’s easy – just see our Wijit Installation and Configuration help page for the steps.)

So hang in there, hosted WordPress.com friends. Hopefully, our little Wijit will be coming your way soon!

P.S. If you’d like to help us in our quest to be added to WordPress.com’s list of available widgets, please send them some feedback about us! (You can provide feedback on the list of available widgets by logging into your WordPress.com account, clicking on My Dashboard –> Presentation –> Widgets, then the Feedback link in the upper right-hand corner of the page.) Thanks!

2Speed is everywhere!

You may have noticed that for a little while today all of the users and content sources in Lijit had a new name — and the exact same name, for that matter: “2Speed’s Blog | Road Cycling at YourCycling.com”. Please know that this did not adversely affect how searches worked or the results that were returned in any way, but it certainly did look strange. It was just an (unfortunately very obvious obvious) “oops” we committed while working on something else. We’re going to go put ourselves in timeout now, think about what we’ve done, and make sure we don’t ever do it again. Sorry for any confusion we may have caused you!

Sorry Wordpress.com Users, we’re trying, really!

We get emails all the time from Wordpress.com users saying they want to add the Lijit Wijit to their blog. We had no problem getting all hooked up at Typepad. They were glad to have more options for their publishers. But so far we haven’t cracked the code with Wordpress yet.

The last email we got back from them essentially said as soon as we were “cool kids” they would consider us. This is all too eerily similar to my high school experience, and with the prom approaching I’m hoping we get a date soon.

Until then, we work with every other platform in the world so give them a try. Or if you are a happy Wordpress.com user shoot them an email and say we are cool. Until then we are hanging out at the mall texting each other.
