The Welcome Wijit provides a set of unique and innovative tools which greet readers upon landing on publishers' sites, helping them discover more of your content in less time while also providing tools designed to ensure return and raise reader loyalty. Welcome Wijit is an extended feature to the Lijit Search Sidebar Wijit and is optional for the publisher to turn on or off as they like.

How does the Welcome Wijit work?

The Welcome Wijit detects any inbound traffic to your site and understands the URI from which the source link generated. For example, assume a reader searches for 'Green Eggs and Ham' on Google and sees a specific link within the search results. Upon clicking the link and traversing to the site, Lijit will determine the inbound URI and invoke the Welcome Wijit indicating a pleasant thank you from coming in from Google while pre-populating a Lijit Search box with the same term that was searched for on Google. This will enable the reader to discover more of your content on that same subject in a way which they would normally not be able to do unless they utilized the Lijit Search Wijit. A pre-selected group of results for the search term will also be provided instantaneously to help better the chances of your content being discovered and helping inspire readers to remain loyal to your site.

What features does the Welcome Wijit contain?

The feature set for the Welcome Wijit provides a rich assortment of tools to help discover content and ensure readers return to your site again and again. They are as follows:

• Innovative Placement:

  The Welcome Wijit allows for customized placement directly within the frame and spatial area of the publisher's post content region which ensures a consistent and pleasurable look and feel. Many characteristics will be directly inherited form the customizations made in the Lijit Search Wijit itself (e.g. search button color, border, etc). The Welcome Wijit can be elected to be placed either above or below the blog post when invoked by an incoming reader. See an example here .

• Re-search Box:

  The Welcome Wijit prominently features Lijit's innovative blog and on-line social content search capabilities. A search box will be front and center in the Welcome Wijit to help readers mine and discover more of your content in addition to pre-populating the search box with the term that was originally searched for when your site was found and linked to.

• Pre-selected Results:

  In cases where a reader has discovered your site after finding results through searching on horizontal search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc, the Welcome Wijit will pre-select your most popular content items for the search term on your Blog, within your Content and throughout your Network. These results can be hidden or unveiled by the reader to utilize as little real estate on the site as possible.

• Discovery and Exposure of your Lijit Network:

  The Welcome Wijit offers links directly to your Lijit.com/users account page to allow your readers to understand more about your network, your popular searches, etc.

• Subscription Features:

  A major goal of the Welcome Wijit is to ensure return readership and loyalty on your site. The Welcome Wijit will provide content discovery means through our search features and when confirmed by the reader that your content is something they should return to see, tools are provided in the Welcome Wijit to subscribe to RSS syndication as well as add your content to iGoogle and My Yahoo home pages as gadgets.

• Reader Control:

  Readers are provided various interaction controls with the Welcome Wijit to hide or expose content to ensure an appropriate amount of real estate use. Readers may also turn Welcome Wijit off from view once they are done using it.

• Advertising:

  The Welcome Wijit, like all other Lijit advertising opportunities for publishers such as the Search Engine Results Page and Front Page Display Ads, includes strategic placement of advertisements providing more opportunities for you to make money by increased impressions and click-throughs given the front-and-center visibility Welcome Wijit offers.

How do I manage the Welcome Wijit?

The Welcome Wijit administrative console offers many features to help control and customize the feature.

• The Welcome Wijit Options Console:

  This is found on your administrative page when logged in. It is located between your Search Wijit and Ad Wijit control areas in the Manage Wijits section of the site.

• Enabling Welcome Wijit:

  Publishers can turn the Welcome Wijit on or off by toggling the 'Show my readers the welcome wijit' option.

• Placement Options:

  Publishers can position the Welcome Wijit in one of two areas:

  • Above The Post's Title (Default):

    This will inject the Welcome Wijit as a box directly above the title of the first result in your blog. It is the default setting and recommended by Lijit for the highest probability of reader interaction.

  • Below my post:

    This will inject the Welcome Wijit as a box directly after the last section (typically comments) in your blog post.

• Enabling Syndication Features:

  The Welcome Wijit offers one-click options for readers to add the publisher's content as gadgets to popular home page providers (e.g. iGoogle or My Yahoo).

• Welcome Wijit Preview:

  Similar to the Lijit Search Wijit, the Welcome Wijit management page offers the ability to preview the changes you've made to the Wijit before saving and setting them live.

Q & A

• Q) I receieved an error while configuring my Welcome Wijit. Can I still use it?
• A) Yes! This message appears when our automatic site detection logic is unable to find an appropriate place to inject the Welcome Wijit on your site. This is most often due to blogs or websites with custom or complex document structures. In this case, we suggest you email Lijit support and we can enable this in minutes for you.

• Q) I would like to be able to change the welcoming text for the Wijit, Can I do this?
• A) Not yet. User-defined welcoming text is on our road map however and will be available in an upcoming release of the Welcome Wijit.

• Q) I am not seeing any thumbnails in my blog tab of the Welcome Wijit.
• A) This is likely due to you being in the queue to have thumbnail images enabled for your site. We are rolling sections of our large publisher base to this system. If you wish to have this functionality enabled sooner, please send an email to support@lijit.com and we will expedite this for you.

• Q) I see a search term pre-loaded into the Welcome Wijit's search field. Why is that?
• A) In cases where a reader enters your site directly from another site, there is no specific search tied to that link. In these cases we utilize the most popular search term from your search cloud to assist readers with discovering your most commonly searched for articles and content.
