Wijit Configuration and Installation

I'm using a TypePad advanced or mixed media template. How do I install the Wijit?
In TypePad, set up a TypeList of the "Notes" variety. Paste the Wijit code Lijit provides you into the body of the Note. (You can access your Wijit code from your Search Wijit page within Lijit. Just click the link that says "Need to install the Wijit?" beneath the "Save Wijit Settings" button, then copy the snippet of code from the right-hand side of the page.) Once you've copied and pasted the Wijit code into your TypeList Note, use the tools within TypePad to arrange the Wijit's location as desired and – voila – you now have your very own Lijit Search Wijit. It's as easy as that.

I'm using a hosted WordPress.com site. Can I install the Wijit?
Sadly, hosted WordPress.com sites are not very widget-friendly and therefore, do not support installation of the Lijit Search Wijit. We will continue our quest to become part of their directory of supported widgets, but until then, you're welcome to set up an account with Lijit and be searched through your Lijit Profile page.

You can add a link from your hosted WordPress.com blog to your Lijit Profile page by following these steps:

  1. Log into your WordPress.com account
  2. On the main navigation bar, click "Blogroll"
  3. From the Blogroll tab's navigation bar, click "Add Link"
  4. Enter a name for your link (perhaps something like "Lijit Search" or "Search Me!")
  5. Enter the URL for your Profile page in the address field (it will look something like: http://www.lijit.com/users/[insert your username here])
  6. Provide a description of your Lijit Search link (perhaps something like, "Lijit's search is great! Try it out!)"
  7. Once you've finished filling out the fields, click the "Add Link>>" button and you're done! You should now have a link to your Lijit Profile page on your WordPress.com blog.

The Wijit looks really bad on my blog. How do I fix that?
Since "bad" is sometimes a matter of opinion, sometimes a feature request, or sometimes an actual bug, please an email to bugreports at lijit dot com with your concerns and we'll do our best to address them...regardless of the category into which they fall.

I want to put my Wijit on two separate blogs and would like it to look different on each blog. Can I do that?
Yes you can, but you need to implement a few changes to the Wijit code first (see below). If you know enough about code that the below makes sense to you, then this is probably a reasonable effort for you to undertake. If not, try taking a coding class at your local community college, and then give it a try!

  • show_content – Show your identities (0|1)
  • show_google – Show add to google (0|1)
  • show_random – Show surprise me (0|1)
  • show_wijitmenu – Show wijit config menu (0|1)
  • show_popularsearches – Cloud (0|1)
  • wijit_width – How wide (number)
  • display_type – (on_lijit|on_page|on_site)
  • on_site_url – only if on_site (fully qualified url)
  • show_research – (0|1)
  • research_display_type – (top|wijit)
  • research_target_id – (dom id)
  • research_greeting_text – (what to write above the results)
  • research_width – (how wide should research be with
  • research_display_type = top)

What is Re-Search?
For an engaging description of our favorite feature, Re-Search, click here.

Re-Search isn't displaying properly on my blog. How do I fix that?
If you've chosen the "Top of my blog" display option, make sure the DOM ID value displayed on your Search Wijit page for the Re-Search feature is accurate. If it's accurate, but still not working properly, try displaying Re-Search using the "With my Wijit" option (assuming that option is desirable to you). If that option also does not work, or if you'd like some help with the "Top of my blog" option, please send an email to bugreports at lijit dot com.

Can I make the Wijit a different color/size/etc.?
You can change its width, but that's the only "design option" available at the moment. We're planning to offer other design options in the future, but if there are specific customizations you'd like to see us develop, please tell us about them by sending an email to info at lijit dot com.

Can I keep certain search terms from displaying in my Popular Searches cloud?
Are you being searched about terms that make you blush/mad/embarrassed/shocked/etc.? Keep those search terms from displaying by using our filter feature! Go to your Profile page and click the "Filter displayed searches" link, found underneath your Popular Searches cloud. Enter individual terms or combinations of terms, separated by commas. Once you've created your filter, it will take immediate effect on existing displayed searches, as well as keep future searches using those terms from displaying.
